Every February we celebrate Black History Month but then we stop. This year was a leap year giving us one more day but why stop when Black History is made everyday. Introducing Beyond28, a year long platform where we celebrate 365. The campaign launched in February 2020. But on March 1, we kept going. From newspaper takeovers, to content celebrating Juneteenth, and messages from Steph declaring every month as Black History month.
When the following season started, we kept it going even more, now with a year-long podcast, with a new 30-minute episode each month, each with a different theme. From Poetry in April, to LGBTQ Pride in June, and upcomging episodes like celebrating Black business owners in August. With listeners around the globe, from five continents—North America, South America, Africa, Europe and Asia—the campaign continues to receive full support from the players, the fans and the NBA itself. So we’ll keep celebrating because it’s still Black History Month.
The campaign launched in February, but on March 1st, we re-launched Black History Month with a newspaper takeover for all the prominent papers throughout the Bay Area.
Steph and the players got involved on the campaign as well.
Beyond28 has become a vital platform for the team when highlighting issues of racial injustice, including celebrating Juneteenth, addressing police brutality, and honoring the life and accomplishments of John Lewis.
